With the Chrome to Phone app installed on your Android device and with the proper extensions for either Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox you can quickly and easily send information (like website URL’s) from the browser on your desktop PC directly to your Android. The Mozilla Firefox extension includes extra functionality, including the ability to send files (explained later in the “Mozilla Firefox” section).
Additionally, while you are signed in to Google with your main Google account on the PC you can optionally store web history that is also shared with your Android.
Aside from web history (mentioned above) none of these tools offer the ability to send URL’s from the Android back to the desktop computer.
Google Chrome to Phone Android App
The instructions in this section are for your Android device.
First, you will need to install Google Chrome to Phone (from Android Market) on your device. During the installation make sure to select your main Google account. I opted to have links open manually… so in my case whenever I send a URL to the phone it shows up in the notification panel. Your choice.
Google Chrome
The instructions in this section are for your desktop PC.
Select either the stable or beta version of Google Chrome. I prefer the beta version.
Google Chrome Web Browser (Stable) – Website / Download
Google Chrome Web Browser (Beta) – Website / Download
Once Google Chrome is installed, open it and then visit this page:
Google Chrome Extension: Google Chrome to Phone
After everything is installed you will be able to click the Chrome to Phone button in Google Chrome to send information to your Android. You will need to login again with your main Google account.
Mozilla Firefox
The instructions in this section are for your desktop PC.
Select either the stable or beta version of Mozilla Firefox. Again, I prefer the beta version.
Mozilla Firefox Web Browser (Stable 3.6.10) – Website / Download
Mozilla Firefox Web Browser (Beta 4.0) – Website / Download
Unrelated… you can optionally install Mozilla Firefox on your Android now here. It is beta and it takes over 45mb of space.
Once Mozilla Firefox is installed, open it and then visit this page:
Mozilla Firefox Extension: Fox to Phone
After everything is installed you will be able to click the Fox to Phone button in Mozilla Firefox to send information to your Android. You will need to login again with your main Google account.
I will update this section later to include information about sending files from your PC to your Android via the Fox to Phone extension.
